Research themes

History of Islamic Thought and Society

Brief explanation of research

I focus mainly on the Ibadis among the Islamic denominations, examining how they developed their scholastic and doctrinal systems from the 8th to 12th centuries A.D., reading Arabic theological, legal, historical, and biographical texts. In addition, I examine the relationship between Islamic denominations in the Middle East since the 19th century AD, directing my attention to scholars' understandings and interpretations of jurisprudential and theological issues, especially in Oman.
